In Muriel Rukeyser’s poem, “Speed of Darkness,” there’s a line that goes like this: “The universe is made of stories, not of atoms.” Take that line into consideration and toss the word “tiny” into it- along with 2-3 sentence-long stories and illustrations- and you got, what is now, a trilogy of books called “Tiny Books of Tiny Stories.”
Published from 2011 to 2013, The “Tiny Books of Tiny Stories” provide stories and accompanying illustrations of all types- sometimes humorous, sometimes dark, or somewhere in between- that are always tiny in size. Under the direction of actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, all three books are filled with contributions from participants of hitRECord; the collaborative production company he co-founded.
They say that the best things in life come in small packages, and all three volumes of these delightful books prove just that. They’re zany, silly, darkly gripping, and sometimes eye-opening. There’s a world of incredible writers and illustrators out there that have exercised their talents in the most incredible way possible; through these books. It’s with that that I’m so glad there’s a production company like hitRECord out there, where artists of all mediums can go and hone their talents for a wide variety of community projects.
These are great books that make for light yet enjoyable reads. If one is up for something different and zany, then the “Tiny Books of Tiny Stories” are worth checking out.
